England Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
The bowler's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The former Kiwi seamer is expected to be available for the opening match because of his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a role as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Speaking as England's team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australia side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.
"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [England's] side that's heading out to the host country is excellent.
"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
But, before England head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
