Gianluigi Donnarumma has stated his belief that working under Manchester City's manager will boost his skills with the ball at his feet. He also revealed that the club had shown strong interest in signing him prior to the summer transfer window.

Unexpected Transfer from PSG

The goalkeeper completed a move from PSG for around €35 million on the final day of the window. This move raised eyebrows due to the view that the shot-stopper is less accomplished with his feet compared to departed players like the Brazilian or new signing James Trafford.

Addressing the Doubters

When asked about criticism regarding his distribution skills, he responded: “I am always striving to improve, and now I’m with a coach who is the best in these areas. He'll help me, and together we can achieve a lot.”

He added, “Reading the game is key—sometimes you build from the back, and other times you must go long, especially in critical situations.”

Confident in System

The keeper expressed certainty that the team's approach would work well with him between the posts. “Absolutely. Every game requires unique planning. Guardiola will prepare us in the best possible way,” he affirmed.

A New Chapter

After lifting the Champions League with PSG previously, Donnarumma experienced a global final loss to Chelsea in July. He disclosed, “I was aware that City were very interested in me before the summer. The interest grew after the tournament. Knowing that the manager was pushing for my signing spurred me.”

Looking Forward

Donnarumma preferred not to dwell on past negotiations or claims from PSG officials. “I focus on the present. My desire was to come to this club—that was my first choice,” he emphasized.

Homecoming Challenge

Manchester City are preparing to face Napoli in their European opener. The keeper, who hails from the Naples area, spent time at Napoli as a youth. His parent is a supporter. “She is having a dilemma—I'm hopeful she’ll be on my side,” he joked.

Familiar Faces

Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte, are expected to field ex- Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay and on-loan striker Rasmus Højlund. Also of note, Kevin De Bruyne—formerly of City—is making a strong start in Serie A with scoring twice in three appearances.
