The hosts secured a 93-run victory
Pakistan brought an end to the reigning champions South Africa's winning streak by sealing a 93-run margin triumph in an entertaining and hard-fought opening Test in the city of Lahore.
South Africa, whose 10-Test unbeaten run in Test cricket ended with a win against the Aussies in the World Test Championship final in June, were bowled out for 183 in pursuit of 277.
Having resumed on 51-2, they lost first-innings centurion De Zorzi leg before wicket to left-arm quick Afridi to the third delivery of the day to push the tightly balanced chase in Pakistan's favor.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who claimed 10 wickets for 191 runs in the match, removed Stubbs for two and bowled Dewald Brevis, who offered some resistance with a run-a-ball 54.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also capitalized on significant spin to end opener Rickelton's stay - he lasted 145 deliveries for 45 - and Shaheen returned in the afternoon session to knock over the lower order with a impressive exhibition of reverse swing.
He had Kyle Verreynne leg before for nineteen and bowled Subrayen and Kagiso Rabada to secure the win.
It was both sides' opening game of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle and propels Pakistan straight into second place behind leaders the Australian team.
The win was founded on contributions of ninety-three by opening batsman Imam and, crucially, all-rounder Agha which boosted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
From there spinners Noman Ali and Sajid utilized favourable home conditions, as they did in their Test series win over England last year, to maintain their lead.
The second and final Test begins on October 20.
