Secretary of State Briefly Halts Trump with Scrawled Note on Gaza Peace Deal
An urgent handwritten message delivered to Donald Trump by his top diplomat, Marco Rubio, indicated that an announcement regarding a peace agreement in Gaza might be made very soon.
Captured in a photograph, the note's text urged the president to authorize a post on his social media platform to announce the news first.
"Very close," the note stated, according to the photo. "We need you to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first."
Shortly after the note was seen, Trump posted on his platform, expressing he was "very proud" to reveal the initial stage of the agreement.
"This indicates that ALL of the Hostages will be released shortly, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an mutually accepted line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he stated.
The Incident the Note Was Passed to Trump
Trump was conducting a roundtable event with right-leaning commentators about far-left groups when Rubio, standing in the back corner of the White House's state room, caught his eye.
He wanted to share an update for Trump, he explained, but it would have to be delayed until after the media departed. Subsequently, Rubio passed the president the note.
"I was just given a note by the secretary of state saying that we're very close to a deal on the Middle East, and they're gonna need me soon," Trump said. "Therefore, we will address a couple of more questions."
Behind the Scenes of the Peace Talks
The event had already been going on for more than an hour when Rubio first approached. The president welcomed him to come in, and Rubio whispered something to Trump before handing him the note.
The note's urgent tone coincided with Trump's top Middle East adviser, Steve Witkoff, Qatari PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and other high-ranking diplomats participated in a third day of peace talks between Israel and Hamas at an Egyptian resort – a indication that delegates aim to dive deeply into the toughest issues of a US plan to halt hostilities in Gaza.
Trump's Comments on Overseas Trip
Trump had kicked off the influencer event by informing the press that he planned to travel to the Middle East "near the conclusion of the week" and could even "make the rounds" in the region to Egypt and possibly Gaza as US negotiators closed in on a deal.
Still, even after Rubio passed Trump the note, Trump continued to talk to the influencers and respond to queries from the media as the secretary of state became noticeably restless.
Concluding the Meeting
Almost 10 minutes after his initial comments about leaving, Trump declared: "I have to go now to try and resolve some problems in the Middle East – although I'm very well represented by our secretary of state. He could probably do an even better job than me, but who knows."
"We wish to avoid to take any chances. So we're going to go and do that," Trump added.
He then suggested that Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem remain and take questions in his absence. However, Trump kept fielding questions before the event concluded without administration officials remaining behind.
"We're gonna get peace in the Middle East," Trump wrapped by saying. "That is exactly what we want to do."
